✅ Correction proposée
Il s'agit d'une correction proposée, rédigée par l'équipe wadifa-info pour vous aider à comprendre la méthode — ce n'est pas un corrigé officiel de l'administration organisatrice.
This paper is the specialty test (English) of the entrance competition to the qualification cycle for collège and lycée (secondary) teachers at the Regional Centres for Education and Training Professions (CRMEF), November 2025 session. It is a multiple-choice paper with options A to E, where E is always "None of the above". The scan covers pages 6 to 17 and 20 to 22 of the 22-page paper. Pages 1 to 5 (instructions, the reading passage and Q1–Q8) and pages 18–19 (Q62–Q70) are not in the scan. Below is a suggested answer key for every question that is present.
How to use this key: each answer comes with a one-line reason. Some ticks on the scan were made by a candidate and several are wrong (Q19, Q23, Q25, Q36, Q45, Q48, Q50, Q60, Q61…), so do not learn from them. "Probable answer" marks items where two options can be defended; the reasoning is shown.
Section I — Reading comprehension (Q9–Q16, end of the section)
These questions are about an article on OECD education data (UK vs. other countries). The passage is not in the scan, so the items that rest on its details cannot be checked. Where the question can be solved by logic alone, a probable answer is given.
| Item | Answer | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Q9 | — | The answer depends on the figures in the missing passage (UK vs. US spending per student). It cannot be checked. |
| Q10 | — | The answer depends on the report's recommendation in the missing passage. It cannot be checked. |
| Q11 | B — probable answer | OECD-wide ratios moved only slightly after 2013. "Sharply escalated", "abandoned" and "doubled" are extreme claims, the usual sign of distractors. |
| Q12 | E — probable answer | A to D are all benefits (peer learning, personalisation, individual support, cost-effectiveness). None of them is an educational consequence of high ratios, which mean less individual attention. |
| Q13 | — | The answer depends on the causes listed in the missing passage. It cannot be checked. |
| Q14 | — | The answer depends on paragraph 7, which is not in the scan. |
| Q15 | B — probable answer | Comparing London with north-east England is the classic example of regional gaps in attainment. A, C and D are about curricula, budgets or manipulation, not a regional contrast. |
| Q16 | C — probable answer | OECD recommendations usually stress equity (A), early childhood (B) and skills matching (D). Putting state-funded tertiary education first is the odd one out. |
Section II — Language (48 pts, 1 pt each; Q17–Q61 in the scan)
| Item | Answer | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Q17 | D had better be put — probable answer | The recommendation has to be put (passive), and the context is urgent advice. "had better" stays the same in reported speech. A and C are active forms of deduction about the past, and "would better" (B) does not exist. The textbook mandative form "(should) be put" is not offered. |
| Q18 | A did he forget | "Not only" at the start of a clause triggers inversion with the auxiliary: not only did he forget… but he also left… |
| Q19 | C will have set | "By the time + present" refers to the future, so the main clause takes the future perfect for an action completed before that point. "will be set" (D) is not idiomatic for the sun. |
| Q20 | B had had | "wish" + past perfect = regret about the past: she wished she had had more time. |
| Q21 | A had | No sooner had + subject + past participle… than… ("begun" requires had). |
| Q22 | B had taken | Third conditional: would have made it… if she had taken… |
| Q23 | C have I heard | Negative adverb first ("rarely"), so the auxiliary comes before the subject. "In decades of legal practice" is a period that runs up to now, so the present perfect fits: rarely have I heard. "did I hear" would suit a finished career only. |
| Q24 | D the less sense she made — probable answer | In the more…, the less… the two clauses run in parallel, so the simple past "tried" calls for "made". A (past continuous) is possible but less natural. B and C break the word order (the less sense must come first). |
| Q25 | E | A non-defining relative clause (between commas) about a thing needs which. "that" (B) is not allowed after a comma, "who" is for people, "what" is not a relative here, and "whose" needs a noun. |
| Q26 | B due to | A noun phrase follows ("unforeseen technical complications"), so we need a preposition of cause. "as" and "since" need a clause, and "as a result" does not fit the grammar. |
| Q27 | C shouldn't have | Criticism of a past action: shouldn't have + past participle ("spoken"). |
| Q28 | A took | It's time + subject + past simple (unreal past): It's time they took… seriously. |
| Q29 | D would have avoided | Inverted third conditional (Had the researcher recorded… = If she had recorded…), so the result clause is would have + past participle. |
| Q30 | B having told | regret + -ing = being sorry for something done. The perfect gerund stresses that it happened earlier. "regret to" (C) is for announcing bad news. |
| Q31 | D to | attribute something to something. |
| Q32 | C did they | "nobody" makes the clause negative, so the tag is positive. "nobody" takes "they", and the past simple "claimed" takes "did". |
| Q33 | A Unless | Meaning: the deal was saved because he submitted on time. Unless he had submitted on time, the deal would have been terminated (= if he had not submitted…). "If" would reverse the meaning. |
| Q34 | C will have been | "By the end of this fiscal year" plus a duration ("for over two decades") calls for the future perfect (continuous): will have been operating. |
| Q35 | C did a decision spark | "Seldom" at the start triggers inversion. A past event takes did + subject + base verb. |
| Q36 | D Deadly — probable answer | "Ally" and "supply" contain no suffix, and "beggarly" is noun + -ly, which forms an adjective. "Deadly" is the adjective dead + -ly, the adverb-forming pattern, and it is used as an adverb in deadly serious. However, "deadly" is mostly an adjective, so E can also be argued. |
| Q37 | D review | The mandative subjunctive after "advise/recommend that…" is the bare infinitive, with no -s: that the architect review. |
| Q38 | A consulted | I'd rather + subject + past simple for a present or future preference ("first"). "had consulted" would refer to the past. |
| Q39 | C Inform | mis-interpret, pre-judge and fore-see all have a clear English prefix added to an existing word. In "inform", the in- is not a separable prefix. |
| Q40 | D withdrawal | "withdrawal from the ring" = leaving the sport or the competition. "absconding" and "evasion" mean fleeing or avoiding, and "retreat" is mainly military or physical. |
| Q41 | A deceptive | You don't trust him because his promises mislead. "reliable" contradicts this, "volatile" does not collocate with promises, and "notorious" describes the person, not the promises. |
| Q42 | B Spill the beans | = reveal a secret. "Bite the bullet" = face something unpleasant, "kick the habit" = stop an addiction, "take the cake" = be the most remarkable. |
| Q43 | C formality | Caught red-handed means guilt is obvious, so the ruling is a mere formality. |
| Q44 | A put up with | = tolerate. "could no longer put up with the CEO's erratic decisions". |
| Q45 | E — probable answer | Usual adjective order is opinion – size – age – shape – colour – origin – material – purpose. That gives oversized (size) vintage (age) black (colour) Italian (origin) wool (material), which is not among A–D. B (vintage before oversized) is right only if "vintage" is read as an opinion adjective. |
| Q46 | D cliché | "lacked originality" points to overused, stereotyped phrases. |
| Q47 | B meticulous | Matches "precise execution". "reckless" and "spontaneous" contradict it, and "orderly planning" is less idiomatic. |
| Q48 | D All of the above | a hope / to hope, a table / to table (a motion), a drive / to drive: all three are nouns and verbs. |
| Q49 | A weather the storm | = get through a difficult period. "bite the bullet" means accept something painful, which does not fit "of public criticism", and the other two are unrelated. |
| Q50 | C laced — probable answer | "laced with irony" is the fixed collocation for speech that contains a sharp touch of irony. "infused with" is possible but weaker, and "mixed/painted with irony" are not idiomatic. |
| Q51 | E | "nosy", "grouchy", "stingy" and "pushy" are all negative. |
| Q52 | B Softening disagreement | Acknowledge the other view ("I see where you're coming from"), then disagree politely ("However… we might want to consider"). |
| Q53 | A Disbelief | "You must be joking!" expresses surprise or refusal to believe. |
| Q54 | D Making a suggestion | "One possible avenue we might explore…" is a tentative proposal. The hedges ("might", "assuming…") soften the suggestion but do not change its function. |
| Q55 | C Hedging a criticism — probable answer | Faced with a critical question, she hedges ("might suggest", "slight", "before drawing any firm conclusions") instead of denying it outright. D (avoiding responsibility) can be argued, but the language itself is hedging. |
| Q56 | B | An indirect complaint: an observation plus a polite question. A, C and D are direct complaints or demands. |
| Q57 | D Centre | British -re. "Program", "Honor" and "Realize" are American spellings (British: programme, honour, realise). |
| Q58 | A Gas station | The American term for a petrol station. |
| Q59 | B — probable answer | American English readily uses the past simple with "just" (I just checked), where British English prefers the present perfect (A). D has the wrong word order and C the wrong tense. All four options misspell "bibliography", which looks like a typing error in the paper. A strict reading of that error would lead to E. |
| Q60 | B /ˈʃedjuːl/ | The British pronunciation starts with /ʃ/. /ˈskedʒuːl/ (C) is American, and A and D are not standard. |
| Q61 | D Noun clause | "What he did" is the subject of "was", and only a noun (nominal) clause can be a subject. It is sometimes called a "nominal relative", but it does not work as an ordinary relative or adjective clause. |
Q62 to Q70 are on pages 18–19 of the paper, which are not in the scan.
Writing and discourse (Q71–Q80)
| Item | Answer | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Q71 | B | A formal, indirect request ("I was wondering whether you might be available…"). A, C and D are informal. |
| Q72 | D | A sentence-initial "However" needs a comma: However, it was insightful. A, B and C are punctuated correctly (serial comma, colon before a list, semicolon between two clauses). |
| Q73 | E | All four capitalise proper nouns correctly (University of Oxford, Mount Everest, Paris, Canada). |
| Q74 | A | The correct spelling is separately. |
| Q75 | B Sequencing | A how-to guide follows steps in order (first, then, finally). |
| Q76 | D | An argumentative title states a debatable question. A, B and C are personal or descriptive. |
| Q77 | B | "Whereas" sets print against digital: a comparison or contrast. A is cause-effect, C lists causes and D reports a finding. |
| Q78 | A therefore | Cause (unresolved bugs) leads to effect (launch postponed). B is an example, and C and D signal contrast. |
| Q79 | C — probable answer | The topic sentence is about the effects of exercise on physical and mental health. A (mental) and B (physical) support it, and D (community, relationships) can be read as mental well-being. C moves to why people turn to exercise (modern demands, time management), a different focus, so it weakens unity. |
| Q80 | A b-e-c-a-f-d | b = topic sentence (promising and problematic), e = the positive side, c = its example ("For instance"), a = the turn to concerns ("However"), f = the opponents' argument, d = the conclusion ("therefore", what policymakers must do). |
