Morocco's official Islamic holiday dates, 2000 to 2026
Wadifa Info · updated 30 October 2026 · Also in French and Arabic
In short: Morocco fixes each Islamic month by its own moon sighting, announced the same evening by the Ministry of Habous. Over 135 holiday dates since 2000, Morocco was at least one day behind Saudi Arabia 91 times, on the same day 44 times, and never ahead. Calendars and software that use the Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar therefore show the wrong day for Morocco about two thirds of the time.
The official dates, year by year

Why Morocco differs from Saudi Arabia
In Morocco the start of each lunar month is set by the sighting of the crescent, announced the same evening by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs. Saudi Arabia follows its own calendar and its own sightings, so Morocco often starts a day later. The gap is not fixed: it was zero 44 times.
Other public holidays and exceptional days
- Yennayer (Amazigh New Year, 14 January): a paid public holiday since 2024, royal decision of 3 May 2023 (decrees 2.23.688 and 2.23.1000).
- Unity Day (31 October): Royal Cabinet communiqué of 4 November 2025, decrees approved on 15 January 2026; first observed on 31 October 2026.
- Exceptional days off in the civil service, attached to an Eid: 28/07/2014, 17/07/2015, 08/07/2016, 07/06/2019, 24/04/2023, 12/04/2024, 09/06/2025, 23/03/2026, 29/05/2026.
Common errors in libraries and calendars
Several open-source libraries compute these holidays with the Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar. For Morocco they often return the day before the real date:
- python-holidays (0.107) and date-holidays (npm 3.38): one day early for 71 to 73 of the 110 dates compared (2000-2026).
- Jollyday (Java): one day early for 73 dates; no 31 October holiday.
- holidays (Ruby): only the two Eids; no Muharram, Mawlid or Yennayer.
- Nager.Date: no religious holidays for Morocco yet.
Since 2020, every Eid al-Adha and every Mawlid from 2021 to 2025 is affected. Developers: use the CSV above or our holidays API (/api/v1/jours-feries, JSON, no key).
Method and sources
Each date comes from a report of the official Ministry of Habous announcement: MAP, Médias24, Le360, Hespress, TelQuel, SNRT, and for 2000-2013 the ICOP archive, which records the first official day in each country. No date is calculated. Four dates we could not source (Ramadan 2003, Mawlid 2003 and 2004, 1 Muharram 2014) were removed. Corrections: [email protected].
